Post Corona Update

Hello Amigos,
Fuerteventura has been in phase 1 of the quarantine since last Monday. Not much has changed for us surfers, as it is still not allowed to use a motorized vehicle to get to the spots from 07:00 to 10:00 and 20:00 to 23:00 to surf. This week was strong NW wind and a lot of swell. Rocky Point was surfabel, but the windsurfers and kiters had the most fun with gusts up to 50 km / h.

We can go for a walk again and enjoy a beer or cafe with some friends in the reopened bars and restaurants. Visits and groups with a maximum of 10 people are allowed, which significantly improves the Corona shinning mood. Hotels and accommodations may reopen with hygiene requirements, but without tourists. Which makes no sense. Some shops are slowly reopening and freedom is gradually returning to Fuerteventura and the rest of the Canary Islands. Daniela and Seba can stay afloat and wait patiently until they are allowed to work and the beaches and spots are fully accessible again. Fatima has received shopping vouchers and her landlord is still letting her live in the apartment. Tuli and I make the retro caravan fit for the camping next trip.

So far, only € 1035.38 have been paid out by my insurance as a self-employed person. No cent from the government yet. On the contrary, all social contributions have to be paid in order not to lose the right to subventions, economic help etc.

Please support Thilos crowdfunding so that we can bridge July – August. There is no date yet when flights from the mainland or Europe are possible again. Since flights for September are offered, we expect to Wellcome you then. In times of crisis like this I wish we had a social and political system in Spain comparable to that in Germany with emergency aid, emergency loans, sufficient medical care and a structured plan from the Corona crisis. Fortunately we get a lot of help and support from my family, friends and guests. Hopefully, the quarantine phase 2 will come into force on May 25th, 2020, if the politicians agree by then. There are currently only 3 registered active corona cases on Fuerteventura.
Kind regards from Fuerteventura and hasta pronto,
Sigi Opitz
